Sports facilities

We have access to a host of world class sports facilities including Powerbase gym, the Loughborough University Stadium, Olympic swimming pool, indoor athletics centre, numerous multi-use sports halls, grass and artificial pitches, and recreational 'parks' on our 523 acre campus.

Indoor facilities

Athletics centre

Seb Coe HiPAC

Opened in 2004 the HiPac is an indoor centre fully equipped across two floors to service all athletics disciplines. The centre includes:

  • International Standard Jumps facilities
  • 8 lane 130m track
  • Indoor Throws areas for all disciplines
  • Onsite strength and conditioning facilities

Tennis centre

The centre hosts the full spectrum of tennis from mini tennis and coach development through to Elite training and International tournaments. The centre comprises:

  • 8 indoor acrylic courts
  • 3 outdoor clay courts
  • 3 outdoor tarmacadam courts
  • 60-seater and two 30-seater function rooms
  • Player Lounge
  • Performance Analysis facilities

Gymnastics centre

The centre is a training facility and has played host to training camps including the GB World Class performance programme and international teams. We are also host to many local clubs and residential training camps. Catering for all disciplines the facility comprises:

  • International Standard Floor
  • Foam filled dismount pit to most disciplines
  • Somersault training system
  • Competition Bars, Beams and Ring Frames
  • Dedicated Performance Analysis suite

Swimming pool

Available for hire and open for public sessions. The facility comprises:

  • 50m pool - dividable to two 25m pools
  • Variable pool depth from 0 – 2m
  • Conditioning gym for elite swimmers
  • International standard diving blocks, timing systems and scoreboard

Gym facilities

Powerbase

With state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, Powerbase has a number of free weights and weightlifting platforms and equipment. There is a dedicated cardio mezzanine floor with large numbers of exercise bikes and watt bikes, treadmills, rowing machines and cross trainers, as well as hand bikes and crossover elliptical trainers.

Holywell Fitness Centre

Holywell Fitness Centre consists of a large fitness suite, two fitness class studios and the new Victory Hall sports hall. All the equipment in the fitness suite is the latest Technogym Artis range, including over 75 cardio machines, and over 70 resistance machines. The mix of equipment offers users a wide range of choice to suit the beginner who is new to exercise, through to a seasoned athlete.

Sports halls

Sir David Wallace

The Sir David Wallace Sports Hall (SDW) is our largest indoor multi-sport and flexible events space. The facility comprises:

  • 3 Zone / 12 Badminton Court format
  • Semi Sprung Junkers floor
  • 1000+ LUX Level
  • Tiered seated capacity for 1500 (various configurations) with additional flat seating upto 2100
  • Multi-sport Scoreboard
  • Changing Facilities
  • 2 Fitness Studios (first floor)

Netball Centre

The Netball Hall is our second largest indoor multi-sport and flexible events space and training base for the England Roses and Loughborough Lightning. The facility comprises:

  • 2 Netball Courts to International Standard
  • Training court is marked only for Netball, Match court is marked for Netball, Volleyball and Basketball
  • Tiered Spectator seating for 300, with additional flat seating available to 500
  • 40-seater Seminar Room and 10 seater meeting room
  • Co-Located in the building is the Badminton Centre, which can provide additional warm up space for events

Badminton Centre

The Badminton Centre is a high-performance badminton specific training venue and home to the Performance Badminton Programme, run in partnership with Badminton England’s Development team. The facility comprises 4 badminton courts with international standard sunken posts, and badminton specific lighting.

New Victory Hall

The Victory Hall is located on the west side of campus, within the Holywell Sports Complex. Named after the ‘Victory Hall’ which was one of the original building on campus. The new facility is a 1 zone / 4 badminton court hall and hosts an extensive range of recreational and social sport, as well as training for societies and clubs. The facility is suitable for a wide range of sports including Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Netball and 5 a side.

Outdoor facilities

Loughborough University Stadium

Primarily a Football Stadium, the facility is capable of hosting other sporting events. In recent years the Stadium has played host to:

  • UEFA European Under 17 championships
  • BUCS Super Rugby Showcase games
  • FA International Tournaments
  • Showcase games against Premier League teams including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC.
  • Home Venue for Leicester City in the UEFA U19 Champions League
  • Loughborough RFC vs The Barbarians

Paula Radcliffe Athletics Track

Built in the 1930’s as one the first buildings on the University campus, the iconic Paula Radcliffe Athletics Track is an international standard facility. Located Immediately adjacent to the indoor centre the facility comprises:

  • 8 lane track
  • International standard Throws and Jumps facilities

Steve Backley National Throws Centre

A unique facility located at the west end of campus, in close proximity to the Holywell Sports Complex that provides a high-performance environment for covered outdoor throws training for all throws disciplines.

Cricket centre

The National Cricket Performance Centre primarily accommodates ECB training and preparation for their elite teams. The centre comprises:

  • 6 indoor artificial wickets, with a range of speeds
  • Fielding area
  • Climatic control to simulate a range of conditions
  • Bowling machines
  • Performance Analysis suite include Hawk Eye capability
  • Conditioning and recovery facilities

Free play pitches

Dotted across our campus you will find purple fenced areas that allow everyone to turn up and play sport without needing to book. Free to use for anybody who wants to play.

Ball Park

The largest example is our ball park area which consists of an artificial hard court surface designed to accommodate a range of ball sports including basketball, netball, tennis and football.

Games Park

Games Park is a purpose-built recreational area suitable for football, volleyball, rush hockey and much more. The surface is designed to be used throughout the year so there's always the opportunity to make the most of Games Park.

Beach Park

Yes, we even have a beach on campus! Made with the same sand that was used for the Beach Volleyball at London 2012 Olympics, you can play beach volleyball on any of our three courts without having to book (out of term time).

Paddock Park

This is our large grassed pitch opposite the library, where you can turn up and play at any time.
